Stress is whereby we perceive that the pressure of what we need to be or do is beyond our ability to cope. This can be experienced over either a short or long term duration. This can affect everybody in different degrees. What some people find immensely stressful, others may find exciting. Stress can be delivered mentally and emotionally, or physically. The term stress disorders actually covers an immense range of issues. Fundamentally the meaning is a secondary negative response to an excessive level of stress, The disorder that it creates can also be mental (example: obsessive compulsive disorder), emotional (example: breakdowns) or physical (example: skin disorders etc.)
Stress-related disorders can be viewed as mildly serious as in the case of some skin disorders and habits like nail biting for example. More serious conditions are in relation to things like post-traumatic stress which can include victims of forms of abuse and/or attacks, and survivors of severe accidents, disasters or war.
In mild cases the sufferer can learn to live with the condition, but very often this tends to gradually gain more momentum and increases to a point where they can no longer live a normal life. Needless to say that the best plan of action is to seek treatment as early as possible as the longer the process is left to run, the more severe the symptoms and the more complex the job of positive recovery.
