The term regress means to ‘go back in time’. In a therapeutic concept, the patient is taken back in time to explore and investigate their past to discover how and why previous events may now still be affecting them in a negative way. It is quite common for us to experience events in our past, especially during childhood, whereby we perceive them as dangerous and/or traumatic and therefore attach key decisions to these events as a means of future protection. Sometimes these are well founded but more often they can also be irrational and/or outdated. Years ahead, we find that we are still living our life in relation to these decisions or rules and they are in fact manifesting into negative consequences.
In some cases, the original event has actually been supressed or merely forgotten. In the process of regression therapy, even just the initial uncovering and understanding can help the healing process. In the case of mild events, often it is enough to review these from an up-to-date, more mature perspective and the current negative problem or behaviour naturally disappears. In more complex cases, the trauma will need to be treated in order for the client to be free of the affecting symptoms.
In the traditional approaches of psycho-analysis, the therapy work would take numerous sessions. Fortunately, there have since been various other methods introduced that enable us to resolve these issues in a much quicker and easier process. My coaching toolbox includes these applications, and I have been very successful in changing the quality of people’s lives through this work.
Past Life Regression
Some clients have a feeling that their current issues stem from a life outside of, or before this one. Therefore, in past life regression, the client is taken back in time to a previous or past life (reincarnation). This can go to the previous century and other times it may be hundreds of years. It is not unusual for them to also reveal a past life of being a different sex. Clients have reencountered numerous different cultures and sometimes they even appear to have to translate from a different language altogether. The extent of the detail being recalled can be quite astonishing.
Past life regression therapy is delivered when the client is able to trace a modern day issue in their current life back to an issue or event in a previous life. Similar to standard regression therapy, if the modern day mind can understand the reason for the current issue in relation to a past life, it can usually be ‘put to bed’ and thus the issue is dissolved from manifesting within their current life.
* Past life regression can also be performed without the therapy aspect. This can be a very enjoyable and insightful experience – and can also make a great and unusual present for somebody else! (ask for details).
