My Story

I am 51 years old and originally from the UK.
I was born into a relatively poor family and suffered a fairly uncomfortable childhood. My father left home when I was just a few years old, splitting up with my mother as a result of a rocky relationship. I was often under social-services care observation as my mother became both verbally and physically abusive; suffering from depression and an addiction to sedative medication – attempting suicide on more than one occasion. For some periods, I was moved into foster care homes. I managed to finally defend and put an end to the violent attacks from my mother.
However, once I attended secondary school this was replaced with being routinely bullied for the first couple of years. Upon becoming a teenager my relationship with my mother began to improve a lot, but unfortunately this also came at a point at which she was then diagnosed with cancer and given just three months to live. I actually watched her struggle and deteriorate for the next three years until she finally died during the most important time of my schooling. I was 15 years old. Gratefully, my grandparents agreed to accommodate me until I could leave home at the socially expected age of 16. Indeed, I moved out alone into the big wide world, and then at the too-early-age of 18 became a father of a baby girl. Within 6 months the recession hit and I was made redundant from my job, causing huge pressure on my new family and which consequently ended in a break down for me and a break up of our family. This period coincided with the drug-infused ‘dance culture’ of the 1990’s of which I got dragged into for a few years before finally breaking away and maturing into the person that I went on to become.
Why do you need to know all of this?
When some people are searching for a coach, they often feel that the coach is a naturally successful person and will not have had any similar experiences of hardship or bad luck. In sharing my history with you I do not search for sympathy as I know that there are millions of people with a worse history than myself, but I feel that my own experiences are a crucial benefit to my work in helping others.
PAIN
Upon reaching despair at one of my lowest points in my early adulthood, I begged my doctor for help and was granted some general counselling sessions. It was because of the disappointment in these that I went on to search for alternative therapy methods in order to get my life back on track. Ironically, I was also introduced to the same similar concepts through my growing involvement in martial arts. I was so impressed by the results of these methods that I went on to study more and more about these techniques, and later went on to help a lot of clients as a practising professional through my business ‘JY Successful Therapies’.
Despite all of the negative experiences that I had suffered in my life, as a result of studying and utilising the techniques and strategies that I had learned, I went on to achieve the following:
⭐ I regained self-confidence and the full respect of my family.
⭐ I was able to integrate and enjoy new relationships.
⭐ I became much more physically fit and healthy.
⭐ I practised Karate and achieved the grade of Purple Belt.
⭐ I achieved the grade of Black Belt (Instructor Level) in Muay-Thai Kickboxing.
⭐ I was awarded ‘Student of the Year’ from several club divisions – 3 years in a row.
⭐ I began to fight in the ring semi-professionally and went on to become the WMTO English Muay-Thai Champion.
⭐ Through setting up my own ‘Alternative Therapy’ practice I helped numerous clients overcome a variety of presenting problems.
⭐ I began to travel the world and later planned my long-term stay in Thailand.
⭐ I learnt the Thai language (self-taught)
⭐ I found a beautiful and sincere lady, who has now been my wife for 15 years.
⭐ I was involved in the voluntary service response to the 2004 Tsunami in Phuket.
⭐ I completed a ‘Teaching English as a Foreign Language’ course and excelled as the highest exam pass in 8 yrs of the training school being in operation.
⭐ I presented and taught English language as a professional teacher to various age groups of students, including schools and businesses.
⭐ I branched into the business of property sales and achieved high sales targets, earning high recognition in the industry as well as good financial commissions.
⭐ I invested in income and wealth generating properties.
⭐ I helped to start new property related businesses, managed, trained and coached sales teams.
⭐ I designed and managed the construction and renovation of condominiums and houses.
After moving to and deciding to remain in Thailand, I focused mainly on my newer career in property sales planning to earn a lot of money to make up for only working part-time in the UK due to my heavy Thai-boxing training commitments. However, during this property sales period, I neglected my health and fitness and eventually became out of shape. Coupled with some business issues, I eventually noticed a rise in my stress levels and blood pressure. Taking this as a warning, I set a goal to lose weight and regain fitness. Over a set period of 5 months, I worked on my nutrition and training plan and successfully lost 20% of body weight. I then (at 41 years old) considered my body to be in as good if not better shape than at the end of my boxing career (at 28 years old). Many people were very impressed and inspired by this achievement which in turn inspired me to point my attention back to my therapy-coaching skills and experience and so ‘Jason Young Coaching’ was born.
In my early days working with people in the UK, most of my work was of a therapeutic nature; helping people overcome emotional and psychological problems. I was using a variation of techniques and with the growing recognition of NLP, this work began to spread more widely to cover sports, business, and personal growth – which gradually formed into what we now define as ‘Life Coaching’.
