Hypnosis has been adopted into the alternative therapy world and is referred to as ‘Hypnotherapy’.
It is known that our subconscious mind is very powerful and ultimately controls our underlying focus and emotions. Therefore, we can use hypnosis as a therapeutic aid to tackle a wide range of symptoms. It is this specific subject that I would like to emphasise for the purpose of this explanation on hypnotherapy.
Basic hypnosis as utilised in therapy is done so by controlling symptoms, as opposed to analysing the cause & effect of the actual problem itself. Very often the control of the symptom is enough for the client to achieve success in their desired outcome. Sometimes this is achieved in just a single session, but usually the results are better if administered over a small number of sessions.
A short-list of examples of basic hypnosis used to treat symptoms in hypnotherapy are:
Allergies – helping change reactions to specific stimuli.
Behavioural Change – changing moods or other behaviours.
Fears & Phobias – changing reactions to specific stimuli.
General Anxiety – helping to achieve and remain calmer.
Habit Cessation – stopping smoking, biting nails, gambling, over-drinking etc.
Insomnia – helping to achieve better relaxation and sleeping patterns.
Pain Control – from isolated pain to cancer pain & pre/post operation pain.
Physical Healing – enhancing the recovery from injury or other ailments.
Sexual Dysfunction – helping achieve better outcomes in sex.
Specific Anxiety – helping relieve anxiety in specific situations/environments etc.
Stress – helping relaxation and changing reactions to specific stimuli.
Hypnosis is also used to benefit other subjects aside to ailments, as in enhancing performance & behaviours:
– Artist Performance Enhancement: All types of performers can benefit from hypnosis.
– Creativity Enhancement: Artists and Students.
– Executive Performance Enhancement: Public Speaking and Management etc.
– Sporting Performance Enhancement: All sports can benefit from hypnosis.
Another sector to Hypnotherapy is Psycho-Analysis and Regression Therapy.
