Group Coaching
Group coaching is a form of coaching that may be of interest to you and one that is really growing to be popular at the moment. I consider a group to be a minimum of 3 participants or more. There are a several different forms that can be defined as group coaching:
- ‘Family Coaching’ – which is obviously 3 or more people (as if only 2 then I define this as ‘relationship coaching’).
- ‘Company/Business Coaching’ – usually when working with business start-ups or with separate departments of a larger company.
- ‘Sports Coaching’ – in a team environment, as opposed to individual.
- ‘Performance Coaching’ – similar to sports coaching but for a group of performers, like actors/actresses, or maybe a music band.
- ‘Interest/Hobby Groups’ – for example, any type of members club that would perhaps like to learn relaxation techniques or more deeper insights.
These are just the obvious ones, but there is room for coaching in any type of group situation.
Group Coaching can be delivered in multiple formats:
- Live ‘in the room’ Coaching – usually for local groups, and for regular and/or numerous sessions.
- Online Coaching – via shared video call or by using a software application such as Zoom. This of course allows a much further reach and so is ideal where participants live too far apart to make ‘in the room’ coaching feasible.
- Group Retreat Coaching – where the coaching is expanded to take place over a number of days, and takes the form of a meeting up of participants at a specially chosen location. The location might be specific to the coaching subject, or it may just be somewhere nice and relaxing and/or luxurious to add extra benefit or appeal to the event.
Aside from the obvious need to be in a group, like in family or departmental coaching, there are many extra benefits that can be achieved from coaching in a group setting, including but certainly not limited to:
- Shared experiences, which can help relieve the feelings of isolation in negative issues.
- A collective energy which often boosts the group in many ways.
- ‘Multiple heads’ – meaning shared brainstorming for ideas etc.
- Shared feedback and insights – hugely beneficial to see/hear of others perceptions.
- New and enhanced relationships between participants.
So if you have a family or business group issue, or would just like to enhance the relationship or performance of that group – consider Group Coaching.
If you are part of a Sports Team or another type of performance group, and want to take your performance/achievements to a higher level – consider Group Coaching. Maybe you run or belong to another type of group? There are endless ways in which Group Coaching may be of benefit to your group, from solving problems, to enhancing engagement, and some sessions/events can be based purely on fun and insightful subjects.
